All the regs are now duplicated and it makes it very difficult searching through them
All the regs are now duplicated and it makes it very difficult searching through them
I have a iPhone 13 and each regulator section is duplicated. You open Part 91 and there is all the sub parts written twice. Search function could be a lot better too.
New update caused my highlights to disappear in the aim. Plz bring back my highlights!!!!!!!!!!!😡😡😡😡
I recommend this app to all of my students. I dislike the new update. Harder to read, and the formatting is awkward.
Hey! Love the app, love that its up to date and being able to highlight and bookmark. I only wish it can sync across my devices (iphone/ipad) I use my ipad for literally everything aviation and when im just sitting killing time, i wish what i had highlighted and bookmarked on my ipad would transfer to my iPhone. Please make it able to sync across devices
Overall it’s not awful, just a digital copy of the FAR/AIM, but there are several things that are incredibly inconvenient. 1. Search feature: the search feature is far too inclusive. Any time i search for a specific reg number, at least 40 results pop up and i have to comb through every result to find the reg i typed out. At this point it is easier just to navigate it like normal. 2. Multitasking: I frequently go back and forth between the FAR/AIM and my notes/foreflight/etc. and every time i go back to the FAR/AIM app it gets rid of the reg i was looking at and i have to go back and select it again. Doing this doesn't take more than a few seconds but having to deal with it’s tediosity over and over again gets infuriating 3. Updates: as of January 21st basic med has still not been updated, and while i’m familiar with the new basic med, i cant be certain of what else is out of date. Still beats buying new paper copies and tabbing them out
61.113(i) is not updated. There was a change in Nov 2024 that is not updated in the app. Be careful. May be better to just bookmark the browser eCFR and use that.
App seems to work ok but forget trying to refer to this at night. Impossible to change the pages from white to black
The search system implemented in the app is poorly designed and anything but optimized to be user friendly.
Great and convenient. However, what isn’t convenient is that it does not sync highlights and bookmarks between devices. I can’t write on it and make notes.
I would absolutely love this app and highly recommend it but as a hot air balloon pilot, it is missing very important parts that I need- if that could be added in ASAP, that would be fantastic
This was maybe a 3-star product before the recent update that added section titles to the bookmarks. Now, I am happy to give it 5 stars. Before, if you had 10 bookmarks, you wouldn’t know to look at 91.205 for required equipment unless you already knew what was in 91.205, which made bookmarks pretty much worthless. Now, section titles are listed next to the section numbers, so you can browse for the concept you are trying to find instead of whatever bookmarks did before—collect dust, I guess. This is on the iPhone. Will check my iPad later. Hoping to see it there, too.
Good app overall. But I really, really, REALLY wish the updates that were uploaded to the app were listed somewhere so that we were informed on what exactly changed.
Just downloaded this and when i go to book mark a page and go to the book mark tab the page is completely blank…. Please fix this issue, for 10$ this is ridiculous and i am not impressed
this app doesn't get any love or any updates. It would be nice if the Mac version was to sync with the Ipad verson and all my heighlights would transfer. It would also be nice if I was able to save stuff in folders. Another good feature could be to maybe be able to control the heighlighter more. A night mode too would be great in 2024. Everytime I switch between apps on my IPad the far aim app resets for some reason and takes you back to the homepage. Its a weird bug that can be fixed easily. Too many missing features and bugs.
This is nice and I have used it nearly exclusively to paper. But it stands to receive massive improvements. It needs to have bookmarked synchronization across devices, it needs to have bookmark folders that can be customized, it needs WAY better search functions that already exist with AI or Google. The search function is currently useless. Note annotation would be nice too. So all in all I like it for what it is and hate the wasted potential.
You’re probably better off using an alternative such as from Aeroapps. This app does not highlight search results within the page, which makes it difficult to find key terms in context (even ForeFlight can do that with the built-in AIM). Bookmark and highlight functions exist are clunky to use. There are no hyperlinks at all, meaning you cannot jump from one topic to another. The TOC is only visible collapsed, so you cannot find a topic by perusing the TOC (as you can in the printed edition). Indeed, there is no TOC page, only the navigation menu.
Deleting. Moving to another source. Missing Parts such as Part 95 IFR Altitudes. Search function is terrible as mentioned in other reviews.
Let’s make this more than a ebook. Pros: - Convenience of having it on phone or EFB. - Bookmarks - Highlights Cons: - No ability to sync to an account so your FAR/AIM looks the same on every device. Including highlights and bookmarks. - Bookmarks are titled with only the regulation. The title isn’t listed so unless you know regulation numbers by heart you end up clicking through a few to find what you really are looking for. - Sortable highlights and bookmarks so you can better focus your study - Printable pages…I mean really why not have it, I’m going to go to Cornell Law and print it from another public place, as that what this is public rules and regulations. - Perhaps a 9.99/yr subscription (yes I said 9.99 a year) and a dedicated app dev and security team to add some awesome features making this a no brainer for all aviators to subscribe to. There are many more ways that this app could create an aviators FAR/AIM best friend. It starts with thinking outside the physical copy and crushing the digital subscriber option.
Would love to see part 47 added as many regulations pertaining to aircraft registration are under this part. Thanks!
Overall the app is simple to use and it has the sections organized. I love that it is cheaper to buy this app, instead of buying a physical FAR/AIM every year. My main complaint is that I wish I could annotate/type on pages and highlight the words on pages with my apple pencil. If they add this feature it would be much easier and efficient to study. This would make the app 5 stars I believe.
Really handy that this app exists. The search is handy and so far for me. I haven’t had any issues though be fair I haven’t had to use it that often. And I really like that you can highlight in the app to highlight any important stuff. I wish that you could take notes in the app as well and right in the margins. The big thing that I would want to use the most, would be to have personalized titles as my bookmark names. The app is really good, so if those two features are added, it will make the experience nearly perfect!
Great app, I use it daily. Would really love the ability to highlight in different colors and make notations freehand. That’s my only complaint.
Great if you are using this on iPad. It would be nice to see proper support for Mac so I could use this on a larger display. The app works on Mac, but the text is too small.
So I buy this app, and it’s missing certain sections of the FAR? Ridiculous
This app is ok, all it does is allow some highlighting. The main issue that I find is that there is no proper working search, you cannot make custom titles on your bookmarks, some of the chapter titles are not displayed fully (cut off in the list with no way of reading), no way of making notes. I love that you only have to buy the app once, however the “Study by Certificate” does not contain all the information needed, we should have the option of manually adding sections ourselves.
Blinding white at night… my rods are burnin’!!
When is this ebook going to be updated to reflect the current changes? I just got an email today from ASA giving me changes to the paper copy, but I have noticed while cross referencing this app, none of the changes since December have been updated on here. An example is the new verbiage under Part 61.23 (d) regarding the Medical Certificates: Requirement and Duration. If y’all check updates daily, then do something about it. This is the reason people buy your product
Has a search feature; cannot search with more than one word. Googling “ecfr 14” and he phrase I want gets more effective results; also the Cornell version is more effective for searching, as well.
The search feature is terrible. The information is good, and mirrors the physical far aim, however searching for information is extremely difficult with this app
The paper copy has a TOC for each certificate. I love that this app is searchable, but when I switch it to “study by certificate” the search function goes away. Wish that was there to minimize some of the incorrect search results when in that mode.
The search function needs to be able to look for a phrase. Different color highlighting would be nice. Add note taking with the Apple Pencil, so you can write on the pages. As other reviewers have stated, have the app iCloud sync across devices. I do like the study by certificate ability and other tools built in but they could have more features as well. Maybe have a indication on sections that show you have a highlight or bookmark, instead of you having to go to your bookmarks or highlights in the tools.
Try doing a keyword search in this app and you’ll just end up frustrated. I guess it’s fine if you don’t have an Internet connection, but if you do, you’ll have better luck just searching ecfr.gov.
But I would love to be able to highlight and write on the pages, and that those notes would be transferable throughout my devices. Adding with that would be apple pen support.
Try searching “right-of-way” or “takeoff an aircraft” or “kinds of equipment”(without quotes) — phrases that are DEFINITELY in the FAR AIM. You will find 0 results. I have discovered that 1) little words like a, an, the etc. kill the search (0 results) — if you leave those out, it does work, but be aware that 2) Partial words also return 0 results!! So if you type “operat” hoping to find all instances of “operate” and “operations” you will instead get… 0 results. Or if you type “equipmen” you get 0 results. Such a shame because otherwise this app would be awesome.
Doesn’t have key FAR parts such as part 95 (mountainous chart)
Overall a good app! It saves money and paper not having to buy the newest book each year. The highlight and search function is useful. I wish when you bookmark you could write a title so it quicker to access.
Searching is a pain. The search engine requires a word for word search. For example, if I’m looking for a FAR that includes “instrument” and “proficiency”, I cannot search the two words together, unless the FAR specifically states “instrument proficiency.” Please fix this search issue.
Currently in training and this is nice to have, but I’m using my iPhone and iPad during training and it’s very frustrating and time consuming to have to go and bookmark pages on two devices, provided I even remember to. Additionally, there needs to be section on the bookmarks I create. When I know I have a section bookmarked, I spend a lot of wasted time clicking through each bookmark to find the section I need.
I have and will remain a supporter of ASA products. The app updates quickly and I like all the highlight and note features. One area that needs work is the search function. The app only allows single word searches, when you really need a particular phrase or word combination (much like the index in back of the paper book). Fix the word search function or add the index like what’s in the book and you’ll have a superior app!
If you search the same term in this app versus in ForeFlight, you come up with completely different results. If Foreflight consolidated the FARs and AIMs into a single document, I’d probably be ditching this app. If the search function was better on this one, I’d love it.
Overall it’s an adequate app to access a current FAR/AIM. It is easy to bookmark and hi-light text and the study by certificate section is great. The problems are that it does NOT sync any bookmarks or hi-lighting across your iOS devices, which is beyond frustrating as most pilots are using both an iPhone and iPad. Another downfall is the search function. It is a “word search”, not a “text search”: meaning if you start typing a word it is not finding any results until you finish the word, and if you type a different form of a word it will not yield results. For example searching for ‘tire’ will not reveal results for the word ‘tires’ and if you don’t quite know how to completely spell a word you won’t be able to find partial results.
Would be nice if it cloud synced between my devices.
Negative: After searching for a key word or phrase and clicking on one of the resulting sections on the left side of the screen, the app should scroll down to the text where my search term is located (rather than requiring that I scroll down manually to find the search term). Positive: Stable app
Excellent and convenient app but one thing I wish to see added is when a reg is bookmarked, it would be extremely helpful if the title of that reg is displayed next to it and/or we should have the ability to edit our own text with the reg bookmarked. Currently just the number of the reg is displayed and it would be easier to associate which reg is which when we have the name of the reg next to the number.
ASA - Love the app but can you add part 93 in your next update? Specifically looking to have “subpart U” and the various Special Flight Rules areas that are covered in that part. Also, the search function could be fine tuned. Searching for a key word does not yield all of the results that can be found within the app. ??? Great job with this overall!
Should be able to sync this across devices. I’m getting a new iPad and I will have to manually transfer all my bookmarks and highlights to the new app?
It’s very basic, but it has everything. Definitely way better than buying a huge book every year.
I like that there is an electronic version of this book! It saves money and space in the long run. I don’t have to continue purchasing a physical copy which becomes obsolete within a year - which is a waste of space, paper, and money! However, this app needs some work. As a student pilot, it would be INCREDIBLY handy to be able to annotate the book, by actually typing or writing in the margins with the Apple Pencil, or by making notes in a separate page commenting on a specific regulation. It would also be handy to be able to print a specific page. I understand, you sell hard copies, and there is a website, but I would love to have the convenience of printing a single page of a specific regulation with my notes so I can use it to study up for the FAA tests. Otherwise, this app is good for what it does, I like that each Part is in its own section with a short description of what it is about. I just think it would be handy to have more features to aid in studying. I appreciate you looking at this review, have a good day!
